Generation EARTH
Mission:
Vision:
We are a global university based in Costa Rica that prepares and empowers young leaders to ethically and sustainably transform food systems, protect and enhance the livelihoods of food producers, and regenerate our planet.
Our unique program offers students the opportunity to learn about agricultural sciences, food systems, ethical entrepreneurship, and social and environmental challenges through experiential, student-centered learning, and by living together with peers from all over the world.
Graduate Profile
The EARTH graduate profile describes the knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes that define the graduate's competencies, and is decisive in the direction of the teaching and learning process. These competencies are developed during your four years at the University and will continue to develop throughout your life.
Educational Principles
Our approach to students is based on two principles:
Student-Centered Learning
Experiential Learning
Learning by Living Together
Teaching and Learning Process
At EARTH we establish that teaching and learning must occur in a dynamic and participatory way between the student and the facilitator. As a foundation for these processes, at EARTH we also establish that knowledge is constructed, therefore it is not a state but a process in continuous change that is not innate nor is it outside waiting to be transmitted by the faculty. We also recognize that, although social reality is presented to the student in all its richness and complexity, he can only construct it gradually and approximately by himself.
Training Areas
EARTH graduates develop the required skills in four training areas:Technical and scientific knowledge
Social and environmental awareness and commitment
Personal development, attitudes, and values
Ethical entrepreneurship
Curricular Structure
The structure is made up of the curriculum and all activities, both formal and informal, associated with the student's training. EARTH's strength is having a flipped curriculum in which the student begins their studies with a systemic approach to agricultural production and natural resource management. As you progress, you focus on the details of production systems and how to manage natural resources.
The study plan has different intentions for each of the years of the degree. These intentions associated with the competencies by year are described below:
